In ancient times, in West Java there lived a princess called Dayang Sumbi. He has a son named Sangkuriang. The child is very fond of hunting in the forest. Every hunt, he is always accompanied by a pet dog named Tumang. Tumang is actually an incarnation of god, and also the real father of Sangkuriang, but Sangkuriang did not know it and his mother was deliberately kept it secret.

One day, as usual Sangkuriang went to the forest to hunt. After arriving in the forest, Sangkuriang began searching for prey. He saw a bird perched on a branch, then without a second thought Sangkuriang shot him immediately, and right on target. Sangkuriang then ordered Tumang to chase his quarry earlier, but the Tumang silent and did not want to follow the orders Sangkuriang. Because very annoyed at Tumang, then Sangkuriang then expel Tumang and not allowed to go home with him again.

Arriving at home, Sangkuriang told the incident to his mother. Upon hearing the story of his son, Dayang Sumbi was very angry. He picked up a spoon of rice, and banged on Sangkuriang's head. Disappointed with the treatment of his mother, Sangkuriang decided to go wandering, and left his home.

After the incident, Dayang Sumbi regretted his actions. He prayed daily, and asked that one day be able to meet his son again. Because of the earnestness of Dayang Sumbi prayer, then God gave him a gift of eternal beauty and young age forever.

After many years Sangkuriang wandering, he finally intends to return to his hometown. Once there, he was very surprised, because his hometown has changed completely. Sangkuriang happy feeling increases when in the middle of the road to meet a woman who is very beautiful, which is none other than Dayang Sumbi. Fascinated by the beauty of the woman, Sangkuriang immediately proposed. Finally Sangkuriang application accepted by Dayang Sumbi, and agreed to be married in the near future.

One day, Sangkuriang asked permission of his future wife to hunt in hatan. Before leaving, he asked Dayang Sumbi to tighten and tidy up his boat. What a surprise Dayang Sumbi, because when he smoothed the headband Sangkuriang, He saw no scar. The scar is similar to his son's scar. After asking Sangkuriang about the cause of the wound, Dayang Sumbi grew increasingly surprised, because it was true that her husband was her own.

Dayang Sumbi is very confused, because he is not possible to marry his own son. After Sangkuriang came home from hunting, Dayang Sumbi tried to talk to Sangkuriang, so Sangkuriang canceled their wedding plans. Dayang Sumbi request is not approved Sangkuriang, and only considered the wind only then.

Every day Dayang Sumbi thinks how to make their marriage never happen. After thinking hard, finally Dayang Sumbi find the best way. He proposed two conditions to Sangkuriang. If Sangkuriang can fulfill both requirements, then Dayang Sumbi want to be a wife, but otherwise if it fails then the wedding will be canceled.

The first requirement of Dayang Sumbi wants the Citarum river to be dammed. And the second is, ask Sangkuriang to make a very big boat to cross the river. Both conditions must be settled before dawn.

Sangkuriang undertakes both the Dayang Sumbi request, and promises to finish it before dawn. With his supernatural powers, Sangkuriang then mobilize his friends from the jinn to help complete the task. Secretly, Dayang Sumbi peeking the work of Sangkuriang. How surprised he was, because Sangkuriang almost menyelesaiklan all the conditions given Dayang Sumbi before dawn.

Dayang Sumbi then asked the surrounding community for a red silk cloth in the east of the city. When seeing the color of red in the east of the city, Sangkuriang thought that the day was ahead of the morning. Sangkuriang immediately stopped his work and felt unable to meet the requirements proposed by Dayang Sumbi.

Feeling annoyed and disappointed, Sangkuriang then breaks down the dam he has made himself. Because the dam collapsed, then there was flooding and the whole city was inundated. Sangkuriang also kicked the big boat he had made. The canoe floated and fell facedown, then became a mountain called Tangkuban Perahu.
